It's a theory that one of the reasons that Toronto has such a vibrant downtown is that not all the old downtown neighbourhoods were destroyed to build ugly highways or "housing projects" back 50 years ago, but allowed to mature and gentrify into a place where people are proud to live. This is Spruce Street, looking west from where it meets River Street. This area is known as Cabbagetown, because back in the day, people here were very poor and grew vegetables (many of which were cabbages) in their front yards. Cabbagetown is now an extremely desirable place to live - very close to shops, parks, restaurants, and downtown - so people can easily play and work all within walking distance of their home. Cabbagetown was also what SCTV's Melonville was named after, as it was filmed nearby.

who: I'm in Toronto, and I write stuff here

when: Mainly riding my bike to and from work.

how: I found a Concord Duo 1300 on ebay for $27 CDN, so I can cart it around on my bike and not worry about wrecking a pricey camera. It has no viewscreen or anything, so it's cool seeing how the pics turn out later. I sometimes borrow Tracy's Kodak CX7300, but not very often.

what: I'll try and write a little bit about what is in each photo, and where it is, for anyone from outside Toronto.
